Wake up to cool mountain air on a late summer morning while you sip a cup of hot coffee on the balcony. Watch the sun rise in the east over Squaw Valley. The valley is quiet; the crowds have ceased; autumn is sneakily on the horizon. It’s mid-week at Lake Tahoe – the BEST time to visit and fill your summer vacation no lines, no chaotic parking lots, no streams of people littering the Tahoe shoreline and trails.

Mid-week nights have lower rates with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night giving you the best rates and savings! Blackout dates and nightly minimums apply. All promotions are subject to change and based on availability.

Squaw Valley Lodge Summer Rates start at:

$142 for a 2-night stay

$134 for a 3-night stay

$127 or a 4-night stay

And even lower rates starting August 18! Don’t you just love savings? Savings and Tahoe’s midweek tranquility will help hit your reset button. Take advantage of what the locals know best: midweek is the time to go mountain biking, kayak on Lake Tahoe, hit up the pool at High Camp. Check out out these fun events happening around Tahoe mid-week!

Book now while we have a midweek lodging available!

This unique race returns to the West Shore for its 15th year. Join in on the fun on Saturday, April 6th for the annual Gates and Wakes. This two-part competition has its participants begin by testing their snow-skiing skills by racing gates at the Homewood Mountain Resort. After three runs, this competition goes a step further as participants regroup at the lake for the water skiing section. If you participate, be careful not to fall in the water as your score depends on it!

This all-day event is sure to be fun for contestants and viewers alike. The festivities and registration begin at 8 am and the day wraps up with a Silent Auction in the North Lodge, where all proceeds benefit the High Fives Foundation. This Truckee based nonprofit organization “supports the dreams of outdoor action sports athletes by raising injury prevention awareness while providing resources and inspiration to those who suffer life-altering injuries”. Follow the link for more about this organization doing amazing work in the Tahoe area.

Need some yummy grub after a long day of competing for a cause? Head to the West Shore Cafe. Their “Old Tahoe Charm” mixed with fresh Californian cuisine is sure to have something for any taste bud.

So grab your skis and compete (or watch) for a good cause!

With the epic winter season we’ve had so far, it’s never too early to plan for next year! Our friends at Granite Chief are back with their exclusive and oh-so-popular Demo Day and BBQ on April 7 at Squaw Valley Lodge. Don’t miss one of the best opportunities to demo next year’s gear at Squaw (during one of our greatest spring skiing seasons)!

First off, this event is not open to the public, and it’s Granite Chief’s gift to you to try next year’s gear early! You must be a Granite Chief ski service card holder to attend. If you’re not, you can easily become one before Demo Day, or the day of! Come on into the store and pick one up before the event or purchase one at Demo Day.

So here’s how it works:

Registration begins in the Squaw Valley Lodge Meeting Room at 9AM. You take each ski out for two or three runs and let us know what you’re enjoying, your likes and dislikes, etc. Brand representatives will also be on site to answer any questions you may have about the gear. If/when you purchase new skis at the event you’ll receive pre-season discount and can pick up your gear this fall (2019).

After a day of demos, grab a hot plate of barbecue, kick up your feet and enjoy the views!

Want to learn more? Visit Granite Chief! Be sure to book your room at Squaw Valley Lodge and you won’t have to travel far for your ski-in/ski-out demos!

This record season of snow is still stacking up in the Lake Tahoe basin! Just when we get a break from the dumping snow – when the skies part and I-80 opens – another storm moves through. Will it ever stop? We don’t know. And we’re not complaining! (Scroll below to get a visual taste of the epic powder we’ve got!)

With 500 inches of snow this winter – 50 more than average annual Tahoe snowfall – weekend lodging is practically sold out for the season at Squaw Valley Lodge. We understand the convenience of weekend getaways, but as locals we can certainly make a case for midweek stays as the best time to visit. Here’s why:

Discounts, discounts, discounts! With our best rates of the season, you can SAVE up to 30% OFF your midweek stay. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are our lowest nightly rates! Bonus: if you book directly through Squaw Valley Lodge you can save even more with Granite Chief club rates (just ask a Reservation Agent for details). Click here to book direct.

Less crowds! A local favorite, there’s nothing like a fairly quiet Tuesday morning finding yourself on KT-22 first chair. They’ve happened more often than not this winter.

Less traffic! Rather than sitting in a long line of cars on Highway 89, zip into town quickly. If you need to head into Downtown Truckee for any supplies less traffic means you’ll have more time on the mountain. In the powder. In pure heaven. And as always, enjoy the pleasure of ski-in/ski-out lodging at Squaw Valley Lodge!

Questions about our midweek specials, event information for the area, or deals on Squaw Valley or Alpine Meadows lift tickets, visit squawvalleylodge.com or contact our Guest Services.

From its early days as a booming mining town to its current status as a four-season vacation destination, Squaw Valley’s short yet illustrious history is tinged with Wild West magic and mystery. The famous explorer John C. Fremont was the first European to set foot in the Tahoe region in 1884, accompanied by his even more famous guide: the legendary frontiersman Kit Carson. When gold was discovered in the South Fork of the American River nearby in 1848 and the California Gold Rush began – the region’s destiny was forever changed by the influx of new arrivals seeking fortune, land, and a new life in the West.

Squaw Valley’s Short-Lived Mining Boom at Claraville

For a brief moment in time, a town called Claraville located at the mouth of Squaw Valley was one of the biggest mining operations in the Tahoe area. Claraville no longer exists, and its heyday as a mining town was over in just a few years. By 1864, most of the fortune seekers had decamped Claraville in favor of the Comstock lode in nearby Virginia City, Nevada. While Claraville is long gone, there are still many historical things to do in Tahoe where you can feel the spirit of the Wild West today.

Have a Cold One Nevada’s Oldest Bar: Genoa Bar & Saloon

With the vibe of a Hollywood Western, Genoa is the oldest city in Nevada. Belly up to the bar at Genoa Bar & Saloon, an Old West drinking parlor with historic memorabilia covering the walls. Built in 1853, the bar has welcomed many celebrities throughout the years, including Mark Twain, Willie Nelson, and U.S. Presidents Grant and Teddy Roosevelt. Raquel Welch also visited the bar and left behind her bra – and it’s still hanging on a pair of antlers in the bar!

Ride a Steam-Powered Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum

All aboard! Located in Carson City, this unique museum is home to numerous locomotives and cars from the Wild West era, including several National Historic Landmarks. You can see a 1910 McKeen Motor Car and a 401 Edwards Motor Car from 1926. Explore the Jack and Marge Gibson Collection of 15 ½” scale models of locomotives, an impressive set of models that represent the full spectrum of locomotives. The Nevada State Railroad Museum is also a working railroad station where you can ride a vintage replica of a steam-powered train. There’s no better way to connect with the railroad heritage of the Old West.

Follow the Kit Carson Trail in Historic Carson City

Founded in 1851 as a trading post, Carson City is named after one of America’s most famous frontiersman: Kit Carson. Along with explorer John C. Fremont, Carson was in the group of the first Europeans to visit the area. Carson City’s trading post was initially a stopover for adventurers heading west to California, but with the discovery of the Comstock Lode (a massive silver strike nearby), it boomed into a proper city and railroad hub. It’s been Nevada’s state capital since 1864, and history buffs can follow the 1.4-mile-long Kit Carson walking trail to see points of interest on the west side Historic District. Find 24 intriguing historic sites from the mid- to late-1800s, including railroad magnate mansions and landmarks used in Hollywood movies. Some of the highlights of the Kit Carson trail include:

Carson Brewing Company – Home of Tahoe Beer since 1864.

Teresa of Avila Catholic Church – Built in 1870-1871, the church’s original wood frame is now covered in brick.

Bliss Mansion – An opulent, 15-room mansion with nine marble fireplaces built for a lumber magnate from clear sugar pine and cedar from his Tahoe mill.

Former U.S. Post Office – Built in 1891, it was the first post office constructed in Nevada.

Governor’s Mansion – The land here was originally purchased for $10.

Orion Clemens Home – Built in 1863, this was the home of Mark Twain’s brother. Twain was a frequent guest.

JD Roberts House Historical Museum – This Gothic revival house was originally built in Washoe City and moved to Carson City by train in 1873.

Like peanut butter and jelly, chocolate and wine go together so perfectly. It’s probably one of the reasons why Tahoe’s Annual Chocolate and Wine Festival is so popular, and has held strong for 30 years!

Like peanut butter and jelly, chocolate and wine go together so perfectly. It’s probably one of the reasons why Tahoe’s Annual Chocolate and Wine Festival is so popular, and has held strong for 30 years!

This fan favorite returns on Friday, November 2 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Lakeside Ballroom from 6PM to 10PM. This year’s theme ‘Denims and Diamonds’ features an evening of chocolate by local Lake Tahoe culinary artists, bespoke wine tasting from notable California wines, hearty appetizers, a silent and live auction, and the chance to vote for your favorite chocolate and wine.

The Tahoe Chocolate and Wine Festival benefits the Tahoe SAFE Alliance, a local nonprofit that provides free programs and services to survivors of violence and abuse, and also educates area youth and community members on violence prevention and healthy relationships.

Table and ticket sales are live now ($1250/table or $125/ticket) and you can also purchase tickets at the door for $150/each. Be sure to reserve your spot as this event can sell out!
